First Day Dreams

Today was our first day together as second graders! It was a first for me too, as I have taught first grade for 10 years! We spent the entire day exploring the classroom, playground, and the new 2-8 learning facility. We had a morning meeting with our class to get to know each other and discuss routines. Later, we had a meeting with the entire Small Learning Community which includes 2 other second grades, 3 third grades, and 2 fourth and fifth grade classes. I am thrilled to share this incredible learning space with your children and challenge their creativity and problem solving skills this year.

Our first lesson of the day was about being a Love Monster! We discussed how spending so much time together during the day makes us our own family and we need to help make sure we treat each other well. This is one of my favorite books!
We followed up our discussion with ways to love one another and we each added an idea to our poster. Then Brody offered to illustrate the love monster!

The kiddos were able to pick their own lunches today....how exciting is that??!!! We walked through the cafeteria together and learned how lunch in the big school works. The kids could choose a panini, a tray lunch, a gluten free lunch, or a fruit and veggie tray. This is a REALLY big deal and much cooler than first  grade lunch!

At the end of the day we read a book about a little girl who wants to do things her way, I Want to Be a Cowgirl! The kids then thought about what they want to be when they grow up and I captured their ideas on camera which I will share with you soon!

That pretty much wrapped up our day! Continue to check the blog weekly for updates and pictures!
