Caiden's Pirate Ship

After our design thinking challenge to design a pirate ship, Caiden and his dad were inspired to design a very intricate ship. Caiden brought it in to share with the class!

Author Visit with Kelly DiPuccio

We have been so excited to visit Kelly DiPuccio! We have read several of her books, made posters with the 6th graders to welcome her, and done several projects related to her books. We love her work! My favorite quote from Kelly DiPuccio is she learned that, "To be a better writer, you need to read more books!"

Can You Design a Pirate Ship?

We are starting off a pirate unit and what better way than to design a pirate ship? But we can't just build any old ship, we have to really understand what pirates need, do, and want. We have read a few pirate books and shared our schema with one another.

Enter a design thinking challenge!!!
Step 1: empathy
Step 2: Define

Step 3: Ideate

To be continued.....

Genius Hour

Our research is done and we are working on our presentations! The kids are pumped about teaching others about their passions! Some chose to create a webpage to display their knowledge, others are doing artwork, posters, or clay models.

How fast can you go?

One of our morning meeting activities is Shoelace Race. The kids make two rows and practice tying their shoes as fast as thy can relay race style!
