Sequencing Stories

We read another story for the kids to retell. A major component of reading is comprehension. After reading a story we retell the details, draw a specific part, and then sequence the story back together.

Number Writing

We can write our numbers by 10's, 5's, and 2's. Who will challenge themself to write by 3's??

Addition strategies

Today's math problem helped us discuss doubles plus one. When you have a double such as 8+8=16, you just add one for 8+9 to get 17. That's why we need to memorize our doubles!

Morning Message

Beau and Charlie lead us through the message. They point out letter combinations we should know and call the kids to give answers. Good little helpers!

Reading with a Buddy

We read to a buddy to practice our fluency and help each other learn new words. The kiddos know to:
Sit EEKK ( elbow to elbow and knee to knee)
Get started right away
Stay in one spot
Read from the same book or each have their own

Design Challenge

Today the kids were assigned a challenge that involved team work, collaborating, listening to each other, and building upon each other's ideas. Each group was given 20 spaghetti noodles, a yard of tape, a yard of string, and a large marshmallow. They had to build a tower that stood on it's own with the marshmallow on top. We had one initial group that figured it out and then the others followed!

Addition strategies

Today's math problem was used to identify different addition strategies that were learned in first grade.
For example,
Add zero
Add 1
Add 2
Partners of 10
Doubles
We will continue to review and build upon addition strategies to become more efficient in our math skills.
